Acceptable use and reporting

The short version: upload art you have the right to upload, do not use this to make material that is illegal or aimed at hurting somebody, and if you find something here that should not be, tell us and we will look at it.
What you may not upload or make
- Anything you do not have the rights to. Somebody else's artwork, logo or typeface, unless they have said you may use it.
- Sexual material involving children, in any form, drawn or otherwise.
- Material that incites violence or hatred against people for who they are, or that promotes terrorism.
- Content designed to deceive: forged documents, counterfeit branding, or a font made to pass work off as somebody else's.
- Anything that is illegal where you are or where we are.
- Attacks on the service itself. Scripted abuse of the free tier, attempts to get around limits, and anything aimed at taking it down for other people.
Trademarks are the one people get wrong honestly.A font that imitates the look of a brand is usually fine; a font sold as that brand's official typeface is not. If you are unsure, ask us before you publish rather than after.
Reporting something
Anyone can report content on MakeAFont that they believe is illegal, whether or not they have an account. Email sam.vanberlo@vanberlodevelopments.com with the word REPORT in the subject line, and include:
- what the content is and where you saw it, precisely enough for us to find it,
- why you believe it is illegal,
- your name and an email address, unless the report concerns child sexual abuse material or certain other offences, where you may report anonymously,
- a statement that you believe in good faith that what you are telling us is accurate.
We confirm we have received it, we look at it without unnecessary delay, and we tell you what we decided and why. If we act on a report we also tell the person who uploaded the content, explain the decision, and tell them how to challenge it. Reports go to a person, not to an automated filter.
What we do about it
Depending on what we find, we may remove the content, disable access to it, limit or suspend the account, or close it. We are proportionate about it: a first mistake with somebody else's clip art is not treated the same as deliberate abuse. Where we are legally required to report something to the authorities, we do.
If you think we got it wrong, reply to the decision and say so. It gets read by a person, and we reverse decisions that were wrong.
What we do not do
We do not monitor what you upload. Nobody reads your files looking for problems, and we do not scan them to build a profile of you. We look at content when somebody reports it or when an abuse signal makes us. That is a deliberate choice about your privacy rather than an oversight, and the privacy page describes what we do with uploads.
Your content is not public
What you upload and what you generate is visible to you and to nobody else. The public font gallery contains only examples owned and published by MakeAFont. There is no public customer gallery, feed or profile. If that ever changes, it changes with an announcement and an updated version of this page, not quietly.
